What Can You Do to Prevent Common Winter Skin Problems?

Comments 0

Winter is cruel in so many ways. For many it means feet of heavy white snow to shovel or thick icy patches to miss on the road. For others it comes with endless problems related to the skin. If you are one of those that falls victim to the latter, then there is hope that with the right skin care regime, you can know a much more comfortable winter in 2012.

Invest in New Boots Many people have the most difficulty with the skin on their feet. This is an area that suffers in the winter, and this is especially true for those who live in wet climates. If you are marching around snow or puddle covered grounds with only a flimsy dress shoe, a pair of sneakers, or worn out boots, then you are doing your feet no favors. If you hope to keep your skin from cracking and peeling on your tiny toes this winter, then you might want to invest in a boot that provides warmth and – even more importantly – a dry environment. This is also a great time of year to start pampering your feet. Visit a spa for a good foot massage and pedicure, but also exfoliate and moisturize at home. You depend on your feet to get you where you need to go, so treat them well this year.

Making Tough Decisions We all love to make frequent trips to the medical spa Austin has many cosmetic procedures to offer, but choose wisely in the wintertime. Many harsh peels, masks, and even some toners can dry out your already dry skin. Instead of going for microdermabrasion to erase signs of aging, you might want to consider juvederm filler or a deep hydrating mask to improve the condition of your skin.

Shave With Care Many women take advantage of the added layers of clothing this time of year and skip the morning shave. While letting your leg hair grow is perfectly find when your limbs are covered by the warm and wooly anyway, shaving infrequently can make your skin more prone to razor burn. In addition, the bulkier clothing can irritate skin for some people, causing ingrown hair. It is important to keep clothes clean, so infections don’t occur in the pores. It can also help to use a gentle exfoliation regularly. This practice can also make the skin better ready for that infrequent shaving.

Think Hydration If you want to avoid Botox Austin for a few more years, or at least the signs of aging that it treats, then don’t let your skin get dried out. Not only should you avoid the harsh peels and drying masks, but you should also skip the hot shower. Don’t take that wrong. No one wants you to give up on personal hygiene, but super hot and steamy showers can steal the moisture from your skin. Keep it lukewarm and if you feel the itching of dryness coming on, add a little oatmeal to your next bath.

Should You Buy an Auction Vehicle? Auto Repair Austin

Comments 0

A first visit to a car auction can be very intimidating to members of the general public, but that doesn’t mean that you should avoid the potential for a great deal on a great car. The trick is to learn as much as you can about the process, about the habits of the auction houses, and about the vehicles being sold.

Stop, Use Caution, or Go Full Speed Ahead If you know what to do when you come to a stop light, then the green, yellow, and red light system at many auction houses should make perfect sense. In this case, a green light suggests that the vehicle demonstrates no obvious system problems and should drive off the lot without any problem. In many cases, the auction house will certify these vehicles for up to thirty days after the sale. If, during that time, a major problem is discovered, a refund is often provided. This can provide a great sense of comfort, especially for first time auction goers.

When the vehicle has minor defects that can disrupt a buyer’s ability to fully enjoy the car, but that does not affect the power train system, a yellow light designation will be placed on the automobile. These issues are not typically major issues and could be, simply, that the air conditioner is failing, for instance. However, these vehicles will not be provided the same level of warranty, in most cases, and should be checked out by qualified auto repair Austin.

The most risky purchases at auction are those that are flagged as red light vehicles. These are the cars, trucks, and motorcycles that have major power train defects. This could be as severe as a smoking engine or a transmission that slips. Forget about a warranty when buying one of these automobiles. You might as well plan on taking the new ride for href="http://www.ineedcarrepair.com/Transmission.html">transmission repair Austin, TX, as soon as the sale is complete.

Online or In Person The virtual auction site certainly poses the opportunity for tremendous savings. However, it also comes with increased risk, as you are not there to see the vehicle in person. Nevertheless, many Americans have found great deals on cars and trucks, and especially motorcycles when buying from afar via the internet. It is always a good idea to have the vehicle checked by a local repair shop prior to buying. Once it is yours, double check it by taking it to an Austin
motorcycle repair
shop. Security in these sales depends on your ability to trust the auction house and the hired inspector.

Know the Value The great thing about buying today is that value information is a click away and chances are that you are caring a device capable of pulling that information up at a moment’s notice. Check it! Before the auction gets under way and you find yourself in a bidding war, know what the vehicle is worth in its current condition, but also in good condition. Have an idea of how much it is going to cost you to get the vehicle in the condition you need it to be. Will all of this information in mind you can set a line above which you will not go, in case a bidding war does arise. You don’t want to spend more on the car than you would if you went directly to a dealer, or it isn’t worth attending the auction to begin with.

Improving Your Smile

Comments 0

The first thing people notice about you is most likely your smile. You may have a beautiful smile, and you may be very happy with it. All but perhaps one thing. Maybe you have less than white teeth. Maybe you have a tooth that is slightly out of line with the others. These may be things which only you notice and nobody else would ever even see, but just knowing it makes you want to hide your smile. Now, with help from your dentist, you can correct even the slightest little thing.

Maybe you have a less than perfect smile, but you still love to let your joy come through by smiling. Even if you have yellowed teeth from caffeine, smoking, or discoloration of some other sort, you may be able to have your tooth color improved. Maybe you have crooked teeth and have never taken the steps to get them fixed. After all, braces are uncomfortable, time-consuming, and not the greatest to look at. Now, there may be options for you, even if you are an adult who wants to correct crooked teeth.

If you are ready to take that next step to improve your smile, you can call on a Dentist in Austin, Texas, to explain possible options and alternatives to you. Once you take that first step, the rest is easy. You will be given a complete dental exam, including a history of all your previous dental work. You will be evaluated according to your health history, allergies, family health, any medical problems, and other questions which are necessary to determine what you will benefit from most.

Making a whiter, brighter, healthier looking smile may be as simple as having teeth whitening done in Austin, Texas. The procedures recommended include an in-office procedure or one you can do at home. Although both types of treatments are available, it is proven that there is more success with getting good results which last longer when a teeth whitening procedure is done by a trained professional. Either option is a good one, but the in-office may be easier, quicker, and more likely to give you better results.

If you want to make a huge difference in a less than perfect smile, you may want to look into Invisalign in Austin Texas. This procedure uses 3-D imaging, making aligners to fit your teeth, and bring them into line. You will be re-evaluated every two weeks for a new set of them until you no longer need them. These are not like traditional braces. They are actually invisible, and cannot be easily detected even when you smile. They gently help your teeth shift, making them one of the best solutions for minor re-alignment. They are easily removed for daily tasks such as eating, brushing, and flossing your teeth, and other things you may want to take them out for. Invisalign is one of the most convenient and efficient ways to get the results you want to improve your smile, even if you have only a minor problem.

Could Cataract Surgery Be Changing?

Comments 0

A large percentage of the American population have been diagnosed with cataracts. Whether as a result of the natural aging process, injury, illness, or poor medication side effects, this eye condition can take a serious toll on a person’s ability to function in day to day life. Fortunately for these individuals, recent years have seen a major growth and improvement in the ability of doctors to perform cataract corrective surgeries as the popularity of other eye surgeries like lasek continue to increase. Success rates continue to rise as more and more sufferers opt to have their vision corrected once and for all. So, why would anyone want to change something that is working so well? As with everything else in life, change is always going to happen and, in most cases, it is for the better. That is exactly when doctors and scientists are hoping will be the case with the new proposed advancements in the field of cataract surgery.

Late in 2010, reports start reaching the public about a new guided laser system that was supposed to revolutionize the way cataract surgeries are performed. That is still the plan as studies prove that the precision with the use of this new technology is substantially better than the traditional method used by most Austin ophthalmologist professionals today on approximately one third of the older Americans. Currently, much of the cataract surgery is performed manually by the doctor, who must, among other things, create an incision in the lens of the eye in order to remove the clouded portion and make room for the artificial lens. However, with the new technology, much of the pressure will be taken off of the steady hands of ophthalmologists. In their place will be a 3D image guided laser. The image will be taken of the eye at the start of the procedure. Of course, as is current practice, the eye will be held in place by suction. With this image, the laser can make a very precise incision, alleviating any human error.

Although this technique holds high hopes of the eye medicine community, there are still questions about its practicality. It will likely mean higher costs associated with cataract procedures and there is no evidence pointing to its ability to create better results. Though the procedure will be more accurate with the guided laser, tradition cataract surgery already has very impressive success rates. Many fear that this will only work to increase insurance premiums and do little to further assist the patient. On the other hand, the fact that it provides improved accuracy does give others a feel of improved security while undergoing an invasive procedure and many who are trying to break into the field of ophthalmology appreciate the fact that there success in cataract surgery will be less dependent on them proving themselves over long stretches of time, as this new system removes the need for such extreme expertise. The truth of what will come of these new advancements has yet to be seen, but many believe that they are not far around the corner, as more and more professionals consider the implementation of the guided laser assistant.

Mercury and Your Teeth

Comments 0

We are all very aware of the things around us that can cause us harm. We tend to look at labels more carefully now and more and more you’re finding things like farmer’s markets and organic foods. But there are still some things that we’re learning have the potential to do us harm, and one of the things that you may not realize can do you harm may actually be already in your teeth. Did you realize that a dental problem may cause you to be at risk for serious health problems?

More on Mercury

We all know now, thanks to the many stories about how bad mercury is for us, that mercury really isn’t a very good thing. You’ve probably seen all of the charts that show you which fish are safe to eat, and which ones contain high amounts of mercury in them, and that you should only eat canned tuna fish once a week. But did you realize that a large number of Austin residents actually are at risk of dealing with mercury problems even if they never go near fish? This is because a large number of people actually have dental fillings that contain mercury in them.

These fillings, called amalgam fillings, have been found to cause serious problems. In 1998 research concluded that these fillings, when in children, can actually cause damage to the immune system, kidneys, and even the brain of young children. This damage is permanent and can be very serious. Another study was done that proved that these fillings actually caused problems with the stomach. These gastrointestinal problems, however, weren’t the only thing, because the amalgam fillings also caused problems with memory, sleep issues, and bleeding gums.

So what do you do if you had amalgam fillings put in? The first thing to do is to figure out if you actually did have this type of filling in. A visit to a good dentist will help you to learn what type of filling you have, and if they are amalgam fillings, you can discuss the possibility of the mercury removal. This may mean removing the entire filling, which may take a short amount of time. The filling would then be replaced by a tooth-colored filling, which has no mercury in it.

Mercury hides in a number of places, and even if you’re not sure if you have had amalgam fillings, if you have any fillings in your mouth, and had them put in at least 15 years ago, you may want to contact your dentists office to have your mouth checked. Or, the next time you’re scheduling a consultation to have Zoom Whitening done, you can discuss the possibility of having amalgam fillings. These fillings can be easily removed, and it is definitely in your best interest to have them replaced. Do a bit of research on amalgam fillings and you’ll quickly see that, if you had fillings put in when you were young, it’s a good idea to speak with your dentist about what type of fillings they are.
